Why Language Matters – the Reasonable Accommodations Conversation

Format:In-personLocation:Fireside ChatTrack:Livestreamed

In order to put in place the appropriate accommodations to allow a person with a disability to get the best out of themselves at work and bring maximum value to the room, there is a need for an open and honest two-way dialogue (between employer and employee) around what those accommodations are, how they are put into practice and how, if something changes, further conversations are had and amendments are made.

To do this, we need to find a language or common terminology which allows for quite a personal conversation in a way that leaves both participants feeling safe, focuses on the practical and avoids unconscious bias. Part of this is overcoming the stigma and fear that is associated with disability.

In the fireside chat, we will explore how to do this in a professional and respectful manner.
