My organisation

European Disability Forum is an umbrella organisation of persons with disabilities We bring together representative organisations of persons with disabilities from across Europe.  We defend the interests of more than 100 million persons with disabilities in Europe. We are run by persons with disabilities and their families. We are a strong united voice of persons with disabilities in Europe. Vision We want a Europe where persons with disabilities are fully included in society. We are included on an equal basis with others. We want our human rights, as outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities are fully respected, protected, and fulfilled. Mission Our mission is to ensure the full inclusion in society of persons with disabilities. Access to our human rights through our active involvement in policy development, implementation, and monitoring of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Europe. Values EDF’s values are built on the principles of the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) Respect for inherent dignity;, Individual autonomy including the freedom to make one’s own choices;, Non-discrimination;, Full and effective participation and inclusion in society;, Respect for difference and acceptance of persons with disabilities as part of human diversity and humanity;, Equality of opportunity;, Accessibility;, Equality between men and women;, Respect for the evolving capacities of children with disabilities and respect for the right of children with disabilities to preserve their identities. Promoting disability rights in Europe We were created in 1996 by our member organisations to ensure that decisions at European level concerning persons with disabilities are taken with and by persons with disabilities. We have since established regular channels of advocacy to European institutions including the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the Council of the EU.

About me

Nadia Hadad, a human right activist from young age. She worked as an engineer from water related projects to training of craftsmen and young people excluded from education, to training and supporting local women’s groups in technical issues in many countries. Later on, she became a Disability Inclusion Policy Officer in the field of development cooperation, with ngo PHOS. She’s Individual member of the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC). She gives lectures and trainings on inclusive cooperation, the UN CRPD and SDGs, inclusive Climate Justice & Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) at universities, ministries, NGOs, DPOs and more.

Nadia is the Vice President of the Brussels City Advisory Council of Persons with Disabilities, a member of the Brussels Region Advisory Panel and member of the Belgian Supervising Commission of the independent mechanism for the implementation and monitoring of the UN CRPD in Belgium, for GRIP.                                                                          She is a Co-chair of the Board of the European Network on Independent Living (ENIL) and a member of the Executive Committee of the European Disability Forum (EDF), advisory panel of European Disability Expert (previously ANED), the EC Disability Platform,  Co chair off the IDDC OPD Taskgroup, Member of the IDDC Climate Taskgroup and previously also of the Advisory Panel of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency’s Fundamental Rights Platform.

Nadia has a degree in Electromechanical Engineering, specialising in “Mechanical conception”, water resources engineering, human ecology, environment coordination, and Philosophy.
