About me
Charlotte McClain-Nhlapo is the Global Disability Advisor at the World Bank. Her work at the Bank focuses on disability-inclusive development. She supports operational teams across the institution to ensure that Bank policies, programs, and projects are disability-inclusive. In 2011, as a well-respected human rights lawyer in disability and child rights, she was appointed by President Obama to lead USAID’s work on disability-inclusive development. Earlier in her career, she was appointed by President Nelson Mandela as a Commissioner to the South African Human Rights Commission. During the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities negotiations, she was a member of the drafting working group and represented National Human Rights Institutions. She has also worked at UNICEF on child protection. She holds Law Degrees from the University of Warsaw and Cornell Law School. Charlotte is widely published on disability rights and inclusive development and is a TEDx speaker.
