About me

CITATIONS

Sarita, my name means River and like a river I keep flowing through life. Sometimes fate challenges our physical abilities but it can never overcome our infinite mental capabilities. I am specially abled independent person with a never say die attitude.

More about me –

The incident affecting my ability occurred when I was of 4 year old (10th August 1995) frolicking kid who was playing on terrace of my Uncle’s house. A power line carrying charge of 11000-volt fell on me and made my condition critical and unimaginable. Though I survived somehow,  destiny had some different plans for me. I came back home without my limbs. I had lost both my hands and half right leg. This was the start of my new journey.

Today, I am an independent person doing all my routine chores on my own with my left leg and mouth. Yes, I am able to write, eat, paint, cook and do everything else, enjoying my life in my own way. Whenever I desire, I walk with my prosthetic leg.

I have graduated in fine arts from Allahabad University pursuing art as a passion. My work is with ALIMCO where I am their brand ambassador and I manage their Horticulture Department, House-keeping department , and also Guest Reception with supervision of Call Centre where I help Divyangjans to get the benefits under the flagship ADIP and Rashtriya Vayoshree Schemes of Government of India. I am a constant learner and keep on acquiring new skills with each passing day. I have always studied and worked as a normal person in spite of my special abilities as a special child. I have always gone to regular classes and studied with other "normal" students as one of them, facing the same tasks and getting the same treatment. I feel that made me a better citizen and human being and helped me to lead normal life without complaining about the hardships. And for being able to accomplish this normal life with my peers and in society, all my gratitude and 100% credit goes to my parents who never gave-up on me and believed in my ability, and eligibility, that I could do better in a regular school instead of an ASHA School as I had always been a very active and laborious child. Many schools refused to admit me and instead advised my parents to send me to a special school but my parents were firm in their belief in how they wanted to bring me up - just like anyone else, without focusing on my differences and helping me understand my own place in the world. My mother specially held her ground and my parents kept trying to get me admitted to a regular school to study alongside all other children. As luck would have it I completed my studies from Kendriya Vidhyalaya( Prayagraj).

I am a down to earth and simple human being and I fall in love with simple joys of life. I love interacting with decent people and make friends easily. I try my level best to counsel any other Differently abled person who comes seeking positivity(Via Instagram and Facebook).

As for the things I like, yes, I love painting, intellectual conversations, learning new things and skills. As I come from root ground of Indian soil I adore everything our culture has to offer, specially traditional get up, sculptures, art and of course food. I love solo travels. I love teaching kids anything related to art if they are keen. I am a firm supporter of human rights be it a Differently abled or normal human.

I am an artist, Photographer, Sculptor, creativity hunter, Jewellery maker, electric shock survivor, disciplined Indian army brat, KV’ian, graduate, Working Woman, recipient of four National and One International Awards.

During International Purple fest 2024, a state level Boccia Tournament was organized at Goa on 2 Jan 2024. Being an artist who had never participated in any sports, thus participation in Boccia Tournament in Goa was the beginning of her new journey in sports. Sarita took the chance and participated in this High mental level game and won Gold Medal in January 2024.

This winning of Gold at International Purple fest 2024, opened the door at the nationals in March 2024, where Sarita won Silver Medal in BC-3 Individual category at 8th Boccia Sub Junior and Senior Championship of 2023-2024 held by the Boccia Sports Federation of India (BSFI).

This achievement earned her a spot at International Level in both the individual event and pair matches at the World Boccia Challenger held in Cairo, Egypt from July 16-24 2024. Sarita's success continued as she secured 2 bronze medal for India creating a record where in Sarita is the first para contender from India to win a bronze medal in Individual BC-3 category and also a Bronze in BC-3 Pair category which is the first pair medal for India in the history.
