About me

Antonio-Luis Martínez-Pujalte is Doctor in Law by the University of Valencia and Professor for Legal and Political Philosophy at Miguel Hernández University of Elche, in which he was the first Dean of the Faculty for Legal and Social Sciences (1997-2000). He continued studies in the Universities of Munich and Edinburgh, and he has also taught as Visiting Professor at the Universities of Navarra, Budapest, Austral University of Buenos Aires and Piura (Perú).

His main fields of research have been:

a) Human rights, with special attention to general theory of fundamental rights in Spanish constitutional system. He is author of the books The protection of essential content of fundamental rights (Centre for Constitutional Studies, Madrid, 1997) and Fundamental rights in constitutional system (Comares, Granada, 2011).

b) Quality of democracy and citizenship participation. He has carried out, specially, a research on Spanish electoral systems, publishing the book Spanish electoral systems: assessment and proposals for its reform (Dykinson, Madrid, 2010).

c) Disability Law and Policies, which has been his major research topic for the last 15 years, having published more than 50 scientific articles and books in this field, among them: Disability and Fundamental Rights (2015) and New Horizons in Disability Law: towards an Inclusive Law (2018). Since December 2015 he is Director of the Research Unit on Disability and Employment at Miguel Hernández University. He is also member of the Board of the Spanish Foundation on Disability and Law (Fundación Derecho y Discapacidad). He has researched and lectured, among other issues, on: the impact of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; right to vote of persons with disabilities; legal reforms in the field of legal capacity and guardianship.

He has also performed several public responsibilities, among them: General Director for Regional Development at the Regional Government of Valencia (2000-2002); Head of Office of the Spanish Minister for Labour and Social Affairs (2002-2004); Counsellor for Social Action at the City Council of Elche (2011-2015).
